A Montessori school is an environment, which embodies the educational principles established by Dr. Maria Montessori as she consistently and scientifically observed how children develop and learn.
In a Montessori class, interactive learning occurs in an environment carefully prepared by an educator trained to work with children of that specific age group. In a non-graded class of mixed ages the children spontaneously and independently use materials designed by Dr. Montessori. They choose their own activities and develop practical and intellectual abilities through individual discovery and exploration of language, mathematics, geography, geometry, art and music.
Please call Mrs. Malinie Dias, a Sri Lankan educator. She was trained in Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) method of teaching, runs Fair Square Private Montessori School. She followed a four-year course in Montessori Education at the prestigious training school in Sri Lanka, Good Shepherds Montessori Academy, one of the first Montessori teacher training facilities in the world, whose faculty members had the opportunity to be trained directly by Madame Maria Montessori herself. Mrs. Dias, BA (Child Psychology) provides education at her home for a limited number of children from ages 2.½ to 6-year-olds in a small group setting. She has produced very successful students at Penn- Mont Academy, Altoona, PA; The Manor Montessori School, Potomac, MD; and Green Hedges School, Vienna, VA; almost all her students have excelled in their careers and have become champion professionals. The children who spent three years with Mrs. Dias are competent to join Elementary School at Second Grade.
