Boxer - Large - Adult - Female - Dog - Sophie
AUG 27:I've updated Sophie's pictures with her beautiful Easter photo. Doesn't she light up a room??AUG 4: Wow, Sophie is still with me and I just don't understand why. She is a perfect companion and no one is interested in her! There are a few things I've learned about Sophie in the almost a year that I've had her, so I'm looking for a pretty specific home for her. She loves going to the beach, so I'm looking for someone who will actually take her to dog beach regularly. She is great with kids and other dogs. She doesn't pull on her leash. She would be a good activity companion for her people (jogging, hiking, etc). She WAS a breeder's dog and has probably had hundreds of puppies in her short life. One of the results of this is that her teats are 1-2 inches long and will not reduce any further. Another result of this is that, because she most likely lived in a very small space her whole life, she has not learned NOT to go to the bathroom in her crate. She can hold it if you are gone 8 - 9 hours but she must be taken out before you leave and as soon as you come home. Otherwise, prepare to clean up after her. This is the reality of rescuing a dog from a less-than-reputable breeder. She does know how to use a doggie door, but she is not to be kept outside unattended. Sophie wants to be with her people, so she needs a family that will treasure her and accept her physical imperfections as part of her and love her all the more for them.FEB 15: Sophie graduated from basic obedience class today!! She still gives her hugs, we can't break her of that, but now she sits on command and she's learning how to lay down on command. Right now we're still having to lure her to lay down. But we're making progress with this sweet girl! JAN 13: Sophie made her first trip to dog beach this weekend and she had the time of her life! I've not seen her as happy as she was when she was running up and down the beach, saying hi to all the people and dogs she came across! She is definitely a social butterfly and will need regular trips to the beach with her new mommy or daddy!DEC 19: We have discovered a new love of Sophie's: plushy toys! She doesn't tear them up or rip them to shreds (at least she hasn't YET) but she LOVES carrying them around, throwing them up in the air and running around after them, and just laying on the couch with one in her mouth! It's the funniest thing to see, but I'm glad she's finally found a toy she can enjoy. If this girl sticks around much longer she will be VERY hard for me to say goodbye to!OCT 29: Sophie arrived on Sunday and she has won my heart. Pictures do not do her justice. She is incredibly beautiful and sweet. People were telling me she gave real hugs, but until you experience one for yourself you can't imagine what you're missing. She stands on her back legs and wraps her arms around your waist, leaning her face against you and giving a big sigh of contentment. This girl is remarkable, and my life is changed for having saved her.OCT 6: Sophie has not arrived yet but she will be coming to me from the shelter in Sikeston, MO the weekend of the 18th. She will arrive fully vetted, so once we can assess her personality and make sure she's housebroken and got the basics of good doggie behavior, she'll be ready to go. Feel free to submit an application for her now!The volunteer who went to see her at the shelter reported back with the following:"The boxer at Sikeston is AMAZING. If I had been able to take one home it would have been her. I got her out and walked her around, and she kept jumping up and literally hugging me. She would do it for several minutes. I would put her down and she would jump back up and hug me. She has excellent conformation. Very nice muscle tone. She is amazing, I highly suggest you take her."I can't wait to get her here and meet this very special girl in person!!
