I am Starlett's foster mom, and I feel she needs a very special mom to guide her for total translation as a terrific companion! This little gal, was rescued from a storm drain with coyotes circling her, and then taken to the LA shelter. Starlett is a pekingese/papillon mix, weighs 18 lbs. and she is between 1.5-2.5 years old. Starlett has had a real hard life, she needs patience and consistent loving correction. She is a wonderful little girl, but the key is slow introduction to new people and other animals. I even think in time, older kids would be fine. She's scared of men still, however she use to be afraid of everyone so she is improving. I suggest slow and easy training which will help her get past it. She gets along great with my personal dog, but she was introduced slowly and my dog is very mellow. I did the same with new folks, she at first trusted no one. She's great now with all of my friends. She is protective of me, as we went on a walk one evening a man with a mental handicap reached for me, she stood between the man and myself and growled and backed him off from grabbing me. What else could you possibly ask for in a loyal companion?? She now is being taught sit, stay, down and heel and learning how to play. She is really smart and loves being the center of your world. She does good on housebreaking, but does occasionally have an accident. Starlett would do well in a quieter adult household and would make a great companion for someone living alone. She is spayed, UTD on shots and microchipped. If you would like to meet this cutie, just contact us. All of our dogs are in private volunteer foster homes, and as such the individuals most qualified to answer any questions regarding the dog would be the family that they have been living with! We do not have a central shelter or kennel locations - you must make a private one-on-one meet and greet appointment with each individual dog at the foster family's convenience. To protect our foster families' privacy, we must have an APPROVED adoption application on file before we release their contact information. All of our dogs are fixed (spayed/neutered) and UTD on shots before adoption. We have a 2 week foster-to-adopt period, during which time the adoption fee is fully refundable if the dog is returned. At the end of the 2 week FTA period, a volunteer will do a home visit to finalize the adoption. Adoption fees vary from dog-to-dog, but generally range from $150 - $200. Please note that an approved application DOES NOT guarantee that the dog will be placed with you. The final decision rests with our fosters as they know the dogs the best, and please be aware that there may be other applicants interested in the same dog. We continue accepting applications on a dog until the dog is with the new adoptive family in their home.
